At Pinch Payments, we believe great technology is built by great people.
It sounds simple, because it is. But it also sits at the centre of how we work, from the way we support customers to the way we build products that help Australian businesses get paid faster and with less admin.
Recently, our Brisbane and Melbourne teams came together on the Gold Coast for a multi-day retreat. It was a chance to connect in person, align on where we're headed, and strengthen the relationships that help us deliver better outcomes for the businesses we serve.
Why team connection matters in payments
At Pinch, we help businesses solve one of the most important parts of running a business: cash flow certainty.
Behind every feature, integration and support interaction is a team working together to solve real problems. As we've grown since our last retreat, many team members had not yet met face-to-face. Bringing everyone together was not just a nice extra. It was an important step in keeping the collaborative, human-first approach that defines Pinch.
When teams communicate well internally, customers feel it externally.
Starting strong on the Gold Coast
We kicked things off with an escape room challenge at Fox in a Box Gold Coast.
Yes, it was fun. It was also a pretty fitting way to start. Escape rooms demand the same things high-performing teams need every day:
- Clear communication
- Fast problem solving
- Collaboration under pressure
For a team building and supporting payments technology, those skills matter. More importantly, it gave people a chance to laugh, connect and build trust quickly, especially valuable for a business where teams often work remotely across different locations.
Aligning as one team
The second day focused on workshops and team presentations, with each sub-team sharing what they're working on and how their work contributes to the bigger picture.
That kind of visibility matters as a company grows. It helps everyone understand not just their role, but how each function connects to the wider mission.
The sessions helped us:
- Create more clarity around roles and responsibilities
- Build a shared understanding across teams
- Identify new opportunities to collaborate
We also ran brainstorming sessions and open Q&As, giving everyone the chance to contribute ideas, ask questions and challenge assumptions.
That's often where the best thinking happens. Not in a vacuum, but in open, honest conversation.
Better teamwork builds better customer outcomes
A team retreat might not sound like payments news at first glance. But for us, it's directly connected to the experience we deliver for customers.
Pinch helps businesses:
- Get paid faster
- Reduce admin
- Automate accounts receivable
- Improve cash flow
Our platform works with tools like Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB to simplify payment collection and reconciliation. But technology is only one part of the story. The people behind it matter too.
The support, clarity and ease our customers talk about come from a team that communicates well, understands the bigger picture and works closely together to solve problems properly.
That doesn't happen by accident.
Payments technology by real people
This retreat reflected what Pinch stands for: Payments Technology by Real People.
We're building technology that makes payments simpler, clearer and more reliable for Australian businesses. And we're doing it with a team that cares deeply about the people using it.
Looking ahead
We left the Gold Coast with stronger relationships, greater clarity and a shared sense of where we're heading next.
Most importantly, we came back with renewed energy to keep building a payments platform that genuinely helps businesses thrive.
Because better teams build better products. And better products create better outcomes for customers.
